Based on the work Come From Away
Come From Away at Civic Theatre Newcastle — the Tony Award–winning musical based on the remarkable true story of the week that followed 11 September 2001. When US airspace closed, 38 planes were diverted to the tiny town of Gander in Newfoundland, Canada, and nearly 7,000 stranded passengers were taken in by a community barely half their number. Over five extraordinary days, strangers became friends and fear gave way to kindness. Irene Sankoff and David Hein's score fuses Celtic and folk-rock energy into a fast, funny and deeply moving 100 minutes, performed by a tight ensemble playing dozens of roles — the passengers, the locals, and the pilots and crew caught in between. A global phenomenon on Broadway, in the West End and across Australia, it's one of the most uplifting nights in modern musical theatre.
