Organising your productions as a Series

If you run multiple related productions — a web series, a theatre season, a recurring short-film program, a Shakespeare cycle — the Series feature lets you group them under a single masthead tile. Audiences see one entry in the directory rather than a wall of individual shows, and can browse every episode in one place. Here is exactly how it works, step by step. What is a Series? A Series is a named container that sits above individual productions. Think of it as the show title on the shelf — The Sopranos , A Chekhov Season , Short Cuts Vol. 3 — while each individual production (episode) is a disc in the box set. In the platform: The Series row carries the masthead — title, description, cover image, and the list of producing companies. Each episode is a normal Production row with a seriesid pointing back at the series, plus optional seasonnumber and episodenumber fields. Episodes are hidden from directory tiles so they don't flood the What's On grid — the series tile represents them there. The episode page itself is still publicly linkable and shareable. The Series page at /series/{slug} shows every episode, grouped by season. When to use a Series Web series / film series — individual episodes released over time under one banner. Theatre season — a company's annual program (Winter Season 2026, Newcastle Theatre Company). Multi-act or site-specific works — distinct productions that form a larger whole. Recurring events — Short Film Nights Vol. 1, Vol. 2, Vol. 3. If you only have one production under a name, keep it as a standalone production. A Series becomes useful once you have two or more related episodes to group. Step-by-step: creating a Series and adding episodes Step 1 — Create the Series shell Go to /series/new (currently available to super-admins; production-admin self-service is on the roadmap). Fill in the form: Vertical — Theatre or Film. Keeps series scoped to the right domain. Title — the series name as it will appear in the directory and on the masthead page. The URL slug auto-derives from this; you can override it before saving. Description — a paragraph or two about the series. Shows on the /series/{slug} page. Cover image — wide image (16:9 recommended). Used as the tile thumbnail in the directory and as the hero on the Series page. Status — set to Draft while you're building; flip to Active when ready to publish. Draft series are invisible to the public. Companies — tick any producing company rows that apply. They appear as logos under the series title. External URL — optional link to an official series site or streaming page. Click Create series . You'll land on the new Series page at /series/{slug} — it will be empty until you link productions to it in the next step. Step 2 — Create (or edit) each episode Each episode is a normal production. Go to /productions/new to create a new one, or open an existing production via Edit on its detail page. Fill in the production details as normal — title, dates, venue, description, cover image, cast and crew. Then scroll to the Part of a series section: Part of a series dropdown — select the Series you just created. The dropdown shows all Series for the current vertical. If you don't see your series here, check that its vertical matches the production's vertical. Season — which season this episode belongs to (e.g. 1 for Season 1). Leave blank if your series has no season structure. Episode — the episode number within the season (e.g. 1 , 2 , 3 …). Determines ordering on the Series page within each season group. Both Season and Episode are enabled only when a series is selected — they're greyed out for standalone productions. Save the production. Repeat for each episode. Step 3 — Set the Series to Active When you've linked all your episodes, go back to the Series page ( /series/{slug} ) and click Edit series . Flip Status from Draft to Active . Save. The series tile now appears in the directory. Visitors can click through to the Series page and see every episode listed under its season heading, with links to each individual production page. What visitors see Directory / What's On — one tile for the series (not individual episodes). Keeps the grid uncluttered. Series page ( /series/{slug} ) — cover image, description, producing companies, and all episodes grouped by season in episode-number order. Each episode is a clickable card linking to its full production page. Individual episode pages — normal production pages. A "Part of [series name]" breadcrumb links back to the series masthead so viewers can find the rest of the run.
